So, here’s my new blog. It’s not my first one, but definitely a new direction. I’m supposed to be focused, set my goals, blah, blah, blah. Well, I’m tired of trying to fit my irregularly shaped peg into some ethereal perfectly round hole. For goodness sake, how can I fit the breadth of my life into a single topic.
It may not be the right business model, but here I am in all of my eclectic wonder–ranting with sentences that are WAY too long and probably getting myself into a boatload of trouble. Not planning on it right now I’ve got plenty to say without hitting those touchy topics, but truth is, I may not be able to help myself.
I guess I should explain the title a little bit. For a few decades now I have considered myself a scholarly redneck. I can’t really separate the two. They are both all me. It’s probably why I knew I would become a homeschool mom long before I had a family.
First came the redneck. I grew up in rural Alabama. I’m descended from metalworkers, bootleggers, farmers, preachers, coal miners, etc. I love God, guns and country.
You might think redneck is a derogatory term–and it can be depending on the context. But, you can’t knock the creativity of a redneck. Rednecks are masters of ingenuity although they sometimes could use some work in the aesthetics department.
The world is the redneck’s oyster as long as you give them enough wire, duct tape and spare parts. How many YouTube videos of motorized recliners do you have to see before you understand there’s a different kind of smart here.
Then came the scholar. So girl goes to college with a trumpet and gets herself right smack dab in the middle of the music department. Learns about classical music, theory, music history and gets her mind agoin’. Path moves along and discovers this wonderful world called seminary. You can actually think, dialog and analyze in dead languages. How cool is that! Plus, it was kind of fun impressing some of these bookish guys with my ability to test my own antifreeze. I love antifreeze testers. They are so cute and colorful.
Now there’s a blog. Right now my world is homeschooling, urban homesteading, homemaking, and home business. I’m not sure what other topics will be added, but I’m sure they will. I’ll be creating a category list so you can focus on the topics of interest to you. I hope there will be things that interest you and I look forward to reading your comments.
